Sara-J
Sara-J was born in the
UK, grew up in Cape Town and currently lives in Amsterdam. She studied Graphic
Fine Art at the Cape Technikon. In 1985, Sara-J was awarded the Hilary and Dorothy
Champion Charitable Trust Bursary and the William Thorpe Bursary in 1986
and 1987 respectively.
She was one of three South African artists
selected to exhibit in the Republic of China in 1987 and majored in Graphic
Fine Art in 1988.
In the past 15-year period, apart from maintaining
a network of retail outlets, Sara-J has held annual exhibitions either
internationally, nationally or locally. Her main media are etchings and large oils.
She also applies mixed media techniques in a highly original manner. In 1996,
Sara-J featured in the prestigious Southern Life calendar and has published
her own calendars for the last three years.
Sara-J creates a market
for the general public to invest in original artwork and is inspired by her everyday
life experiences, often humorous and lightheartedly erotic.
